How Much Does a Vasectomy Reversal Cost?

The combined cost of a vasectomy reversal procedure (anesthesia, surgery center facility fee, and procedure fee) is:

$7600.00

This is the complete reversal cost with no “hidden charges”, and is the same regardless of whether a vas-to-vas or vas-to-epididymis procedure is needed. The only costs that this does not cover would include any recommended blood testing (which is typically covered by insurance), and the follow-up semen analysis testing (performed at a local fertility lab near where you live).  Semen analysis testing typically costs around $125-150, and this is sometimes covered by insurance.

Optional Sperm Freezing

There is optional sperm freezing, in which sperm are removed from the testicle at the time of the reversal.  These sperm can then be used for later IVF/ICSI if needed.  Dr. Russell does not personally charge extra to remove sperm at the time of a reversal, but the additional operative time involved costs $350.00, and the local fertility lab charges ~$1000.00 to freeze and store the sperm for 1 year, and then about $275 yearly storage fee after the first year. Sperm can be shipped to any other IVF lab around the country at a later date if needed.

Scheduling

Dr. Russell’s practice has focused on vasectomy reversals since finishing his microsurgery fellowship training over 20 years ago, and over this time a procedure date could typically be found within 3 months or so.  Over time, his practice has gotten progressively busier and currently in 2026, the scheduling time is closer to 6 months.  We do not at all like to keep couples waiting this long, but Dr. Russell does not want to sacrifice quality for a higher output surgical schedule or utilizing ancillary providers like nurse practitioners or physician assistants to perform any parts of his microsurgeries.  By focusing exclusively on one meticulous vasectomy reversal per day, Dr. Russell feels that he can provide the best chances for fertility success for each couple.  The practice does have a waiting list for earlier dates that become available, which does occur quite frequently as life events come up and couples need to shuffle around their procedure dates due to changes in their work or vacation schedules.

One reversal is performed each morning of the work week (Monday through Friday). At the time of scheduling, a $400 deposit must be paid to hold a procedure date and this deposit is put towards the total cost of the procedure.  Since surgery dates are usually not able to be filled within 3 weeks of a procedure, cancellations 3 weeks or closer to the procedure date will result in loss of the $400 deposit.  However, if you need to cancel or reschedule a reversal before the 3 week time period, the deposit will be refunded in full.

Financing Options for vasectomy reversals

The total cost of the vasectomy reversal procedure is $7,600.00 including the $400 deposit paid at the time of scheduling. As this procedure is rarely covered by insurance, this is the discounted pre-paid price.

Dr. Russell accepts financing for the reversal procedure, but at the full (non-discounted) rate of $8,000.00 (instead of $7,600 if it is pre-paid in full).  All or part of the procedure can be financed, and the 6% discount is given for any part of the total cost that is not financed.  Financing is provided by Carecredit, an independent financing company, which offers different financing options ranging from 6 to 60 months with different interest rates depending on the repayment timeframe.  For more information, you can click the link below for www.carecredit.com.
